of Alpe d'Huez

Alpe d'Huez airport is a small altiport serving the resort of Alpe d'Huez in the Grandes Rousses massif, 13 NM south-east of Grenoble. Like all altiports, Alpe d'Huez is restricted to aeroplane pilots holding either the mountain rating (wheels and/or skis) or a valid site authorisation for the altiport (snow-free ground, or snow-covered groomed ground). Microlight pilots are strongly advised to have completed the mountain course run by the FFPLUM.

A welcoming airfield, but a runway that makes you understand the challenge of landing in the mountains, summer and winter alike.

Extract from the LFHU VAC (Visual Approach Chart).

We share a long history with LFHU, but since 2022 the ACD no longer has its own activity at Huez. We do, however, have an agreement with the municipality for our aircraft movements on the airfield. Take-offs and landings must follow the circuits defined by Jack Porte.

A whiteout day at Huez, as shown in the video below. The cloud cover is so thick that there are no (or very, very few) shadows. Landing on snow is then not recommended for any pilot with only limited mountain experience.
